Project Hope lebanon and Syria
The escalation of the conflict in Lebanon is further deepening the vulnerability of a population already burdened by cumulative crises while the UN aid coordination office, OCHA, warned that all those impacted “are enduring the worst humanitarian crisis in decades”.
The ongoing conflict in Lebanon has severely disrupted essential services and damaged critical infrastructure, leading to significant increases in food insecurity and poverty.
The combination of internal displacement and the existing economic and political crises has drastically worsened living conditions, necessitating urgent intervention.
In September 2024, large-scale cross-border attacks escalated in
Lebanon, causing over 1,000 deaths and 6,352 injuries in less than
two weeks. This brings the total to more than 1,800 killed and 9,100
injured since October 2023.
It is the sixth most food-insecure country in the world, and 16.7 million Syrians depend on humanitarian assistance to survive.
In addition to the protracted conflict, Syria faces multiple crises: displacement, droughts, cholera and other disease outbreaks, and natural disasters such as last year’s devastating earthquake. “The current situation is extremely difficult; 90% of the population lives in poverty with no signs of improvement in sight. It is essential to continue saving lives, but it is also crucial to invest in recovery so that the most vulnerable people can rebuild their lives in dignity,” says Darius Zietek, Action Against Hunger’s Country Director for Syria.
The Church in Syria is willing to respond to this need.
